Solo Travel Cinque Terre
Along Italy’s rocky Riviera coastline lies the five magical hillside towns of Cinque Terre. Each village hosts a range of restaurants and hotels, although the natural beauty and unique ambiance of each village are the true attraction. Hiking along the coastline is one of the most unique and superb experiences I have encountered due to the gorgeous trails carved through the cliffs connecting the villages. Taking a break from hiking, I have been able to boat and train along this enchanting coastline and visit each village in my own time and discover their beauty.
Starting in the northwest is the town of Monterosso, the largest of the five towns. Here I have spent many days enjoying the pristine beach surrounded by rocky cliffs. A unique and delightful site, allowing me to take advantage of this relaxing area in-between days of hiking through the mountains.
Vernazza comes next along the coast and has been one of my favorite towns to visit. This picturesque town exists in a split between the cliffside, and its steep narrow main boulevard that stretches to the water is truly captivating.
Corniglia sits further back and is the only town I had to climb upwards to access. The viewpoints here are truly breathtaking, and the best I have experienced along Cinque Terre.
From here you can see the famous vineyards of Manarola, the next village over.
Riomaggiore was the first of the towns to be discovered and lies in the southeast. Finishing any day here with a majestic sunset and a delicious glass of local wine is the perfect way to travel.
